NANAIMO’S GOT PRIDE!

A haven for LGBTQIA+ folx and allies, Nanaimo’s Pride week is a party from start to finish. Taking place from June 4 and culminating in a parade and a party on June 9, Nanaimo pulls out all the stop for Pride. Last year the parade brought out 10,000 people to celebrate inclusivity and being who you are!
June 9 is the big day with a huge parade that showcases the diversity of identities that call Nanaimo home. Of course, the showstopper of Pride Week is the outdoor dance in Bowen Park! Taking place from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM, this is a celebration of love. The Angela Hehr band will provide live music, followed by the liberating beats of DJ Tre who is sure to free your mind AND your booty!
 

CEDAR ULTRAMARATHON

The ultramarathon is NOT for everybody. But for those who crave one of the most intense, borderline inhuman physical challenges you can take on without the danger of actually flinging yourself from a great height WITHOUT a parachute, it’s one of the most exciting things you can possibly do.
The Cedar Ultra is a 24-hour endurance race designed to test your body and spirit and it takes place June 7.
 

OCEAN FILM FESTIVAL

Situated on Vancouver Island and the waters of the Georgia Strait, Nanaimo loves and respects the beauty and the power of the Pacific Ocean. That’s why the Ocean Film Festival is returning for its tenth year! Featuring short films directed by local filmmakers on subjects affecting our waters, this festival aims at informing and inspiring its attendees to become better stewards of the Ocean. It’s an engaging experience that will strengthen your resolve! Check it out June 10 at the Malaspina Theatre at Vancouver Island University.
