There are so many ways to get outdoors, from hiking to swimming to boating, but one of our favourites is camping. Nanaimo is home to several campgrounds all across town. Whether you’re looking for an oceanside locale to spend the night or a secluded forest in nature, you’ll find it here. Keep reading to discover the top three spots to camp in Nanaimo.
Saysutshun-Newcastle Island Provincial Park and Campground is a must-visit when in Nanaimo, but if you have the opportunity to camp there, you absolutely have to take it! Perhaps the most scenic campground in Nanaimo, this oceanside campground will have you sleeping among the moss-covered evergreen trees just a short distance from the park’s harbour. The easiest way to get to Saysutshun-Newcastle Island Provincial Park and Campground is by ferry, which typically runs every half an hour. Be sure to make a reservation for the campground in advance as it does fill up in the summer.
The Living Forest Oceanside Campground is one of the most popular in Nanaimo for a reason. It has plenty of amenities, including showers, a café, trail access, a games room and lounge, and of course, panoramic views of the area. Bring your kayak along and enjoy a morning paddle in the water or head out for a bike ride or hike on one of the nearby trails. There’s no shortage of natural beauty at this Nanaimo campground.
Mountainaire Campground is an RV park and campground boasting 40 acres of space. It is family-friendly and perfect for all types of adventurers. Campground amenities include clean washrooms and showers, an outdoor playground, a laundry room, beach volleyball courts, a convenience store and arcade, and a pond. Hike through the rainforest to find the Crystal Bowl swimming area or head to Friday movie night where free popcorn is served.
