1. Fly Carbon Neutral

Give guilt the boot and catch a carbon neutral flight from Vancouver to Nanaimo wit Harbour Air, the world’s largest all-seaplane airline. In 2007, Harbour Air partnered with Offsetters Climate Solutions to begin calculating and offsetting its carbon footprint. Since then it has offset 100 percent of emissions associated with seaplane fuel use and corporate operations.

2. View from the Shore

Enjoy potential sightings of seals and sea lions from the shoreline. There’s no need to worry about seasickness either!

3. Burn Nothing but Calories

Put on your comfy shoes and go explore Nanaimo’s three downtown shopping districts: the Waterfront District, the Arts District and the Old City Quarter. You’ll find everything from major big name retailers to funky one-of-a-kind shops and boutiques.

4. Soak up some History

Visit the historic Bastion Museum. There are three floors of history to explore in Nanaimo’s oldest building. Today, it is Nanaimo’s most recognizable landmark, but it’s important to note that it was built in 1853 by workers of the Hudson’s Bay Company.

5. Go Arty

Tour six downtown art galleries and the new Nanaimo Museum in the Port of Nanaimo Centre.Nanaimo Art Gallery on Commercial Street maintains a growing collection of art and holds works by significant artists from BC, while the Golden Otter Gallery on Nicol Street features a curated collection that reflects the shared Island values of conservation and respect for nature.

6. Have a Guilt-Free Lunch or Dinner

Check out Power House Living on Commercial Street for raw vegan cuisine that’s rich in natural phytonutrients, fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals. You can happily munch on everything from pesto pizza and spicy kelp noodle salad to kale chips and (yes, you guessed it) Nanaimo bars.
