Are you gonna raise a fuss, or gonna raise a holler about a-workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar?
We know that sometimes you wonder what you’re a-gonna do but…

NANAIMO SUMMERTIME BLUES 2019

There ain’t no cure for the summertime blues… and that’s just the way we like it!

The blues may be about feeling bad, but listening to them makes you feel so, so good. That’s why the Nanaimo Blues Society is hosting the Summertime Blues Festival this August 22 to 25 in Maffeo Sutton Park.

That’s four days of classic blues goodness! The blues are the quintessential American music, combining folk traditions from around the world into a sweet, soulful sound that captured the sorrow of African Americans in the early 20th Century. Virtually every new sound that emerged in the 20th Century, from jazz to rock to funk, all owe their existence to the blues.

100 years later, the Blues is still very much alive! That’s perfectly clear when you look at the line-up for this fantastic festival. With dozens of acts over four days, there’s so much to see!

One of the premier acts was actually the inspiration for the festival in the first place: David Gogo is a local musician who plays fiery, explosive blues that shows you just how vital the art form can be. Add to that fantastic acts like Crystal Shawanda, Tas Cru and his Band of Tortured Souls, Judy Brown, Jona Kristinsson and many, many more. It’s going to be soulful fun in the heat of the sun!

Of course, when summer heats up Nanaimo still has the cool of the harbour air so you can enjoy the sun comfortably. When visiting book a room at the Best Western Dorchester for fantastic accommodations in the heart of the Nanaimo harbour!
